LCO Alumni Advisory Committee:

The LCO Alumni Committee has been launched!

The LCO Alumni Committee has recently been launched and is developing an exhilarating range of activities that is sure to inspire a new generation of Diasporan Armenians to visit their homeland. In the near future, the Committee will be hosting cultural and recruitment events to spread the word about the successes of the 2004 campaign and generate excitement about the 2005 campaign. As well, the Committee is reaching out to the LCO community at large in an effort to establish an Alumni network that would reconnect old friends and maintain the link between LCOs history and its future.

We hope that a network of Alumni committed to preserving the LCO mission will work alongside the committee to ensure that more and more young Diasporan adults are become engaged in the life-shaping LCO experience for generations to come.

Mission
The LCO Alumni Advisory Committee is envisioned as a support group for each regional LCO Board of Directors in areas including volunteer recruitment, program development, public relations, and cultural activism. The Committee will comprise a select set of summer campaign veterans that are committed to actively participating in LCO’s development within the context of the LCO mission and vision. Specifically, each Alumni Advisory Committee is designed to provide these veterans a forum offering meaningful engagement with a regional LCO and its ongoing activities. Through such engagement, the Committee will help expand the current capabilities of each regional LCO.
In its initial stages, members of each LCO Alumni Advisory Committee shall be chosen by the respective regional LCO Board of Directors.
The Committee should include no less than 10 members originating from the countries comprised within that regional LCO’s territory.
The Committee can choose to elect an Executive Council comprised of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. To maximize efficiency and effectiveness, collaboration between the regional Alumni Committees will be strongly encouraged.

Tasks
The Committee will serve as a bridge between the LCO Boards of Directors, paid LCO/UIOTC staff members, the LCO veteran communities, and the Armenian communities at large, in the Diaspora and Homeland, helping the LCOs to evolve their programs in order to face the growing, changing needs of the communities and Homeland, and the mindset and priorities of the youth. The following list of proposed activities is by no means exhaustive; ideally, the scope of the Committee's activities will expand as it forms and grows.
  • Develop volunteer recruitment strategies on a national and international scale.
  • Participate in recruitment, as well as public relations and marketing forums for the LCO and its activities.
  • Should any member of the Committee have experience in grant-writing, assist the LCO Board of Directors and/or paid staff with the grant application process.
  • Contribute to the evolution of the summer campaign program, as well as other programs that are currently under development.
  • Participate in the pre-campaign preparation of volunteers through organized orientations and meetings.
  • Participate in recruiting/training alumni for future group leader positions, or to serve as transitional group leaders if an alumnus is not available for the group leader position.
  • Participate in the preparation of the Tebi Yergir and other periodicals that may be issued in the future by providing/collecting articles and photos.
  • Provide ideas and assistance for the maintaining a current and cutting edge LCO website.
  • Maintain communication with LCO veterans and encourage attendance at the annual General Assembly. This includes providing up-to-date information on LCO activities.
  • Organize cultural events and volunteer gatherings in local communities in an effort to establish networking.
  • Recruit talented, committed individuals for participation in the Committee and, potentially, for Board positions.
  • Create an international grass-roots advocacy engine on behalf of Armenian monuments and communities in peril. At this time, no such campaign exists anywhere in the world. The purpose here is to amplify awareness, responsiveness, and effectiveness of Armenian efforts in the international arena, including the United Nations and national Governments, to save our historical treasures and communities in peril.
